India beat England by seven wickets in the second Test at Trent Bridge on Tuesday to register just their fifth Test victory on English soil.

The winning runs came in form of a bye that reached the ropes. Rahul Dravid on 11 and Sourav Ganguly on two were in the middle after India lost three wickets in the morning session.

Chasing a mere 73 in the second innings, India was 10 for no loss at stumps on day four. The visitors would have hoped to register a 10-wicket win, but Chris Tremlett spoiled the party.

Wasim Jaffer was the first to go. He tried to pull a Tremlett delivery to the fence but top edged it and Kevin Pietersen completed an easy catch. He made 22.

Dinesh Karthik also made 22 before he was caught behind by Matt Prior to give Tremlett his second wicket. The bowler then had Sachin Tendulkar caught by Alaistar Cook for seven.

With this win, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three match series. The third Test will be played at The Oval from August 9 to 13.
