ASTON Martin has just built the last car that will ever roll out of its Newport Pagnell factory. It's a Vanquish S Ultimate Edition costing £182,095 - not that Aston is going to sell it, it's for the firm's own collection.
The Newport Pagnell plant, which opened in 1954, is a bit of a classic itself. It straddles the high street with part of the works on one side of the road and the rest on the other. In the old days they used to wheel engines across the road to be fitted to the cars.
The place won't build any new cars, but the Aston Martin Works Service department will still be there, full of gorgeous old Astons and clever blokes in coats working on them.
